Work is to start to upgrade ageing water mains in Co Roscommon.
The Athleague Water Main Upgrade and Lead Services Replacement Project will involve the decommissioning and replacement of approximately 1.1km of ageing cast iron water mains and the replacement of approximately 60 lead service connections with new polyethylene equivalents.
The project has been prioritised by Irish Water to enable Roscommon County Council complete resurfacing works in the area.
The scheme is part of Irish Water's national Leakage Reduction Programme which over the next four years will reduce the high level of leakage across the country by fixing or replacing ageing water mains.
Irish Water's Water Network Regional Lead Dave Murphy, said: "These works will commence in early October and the vast majority of the works will be completed by the Christmas period. The project is expected to be fully completed in approximately 12 weeks and will deliver significant improvements to customers who have been affected by disruptions to their water supply due to bursts along the pipe."
