The overspend in the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scandal has risen from £490 million to £700m, it has been revealed.
An investigation by Spotlight revealed several errors in the scheme which were believed to cost the public purse around £490m, however the figure has now increased.
SDLP Economy Spokesperson Sinead Bradley MLA, said the figures unveiled at Belfast Crown Court were "absolutely astounding".
She said: "In the context of cuts already being made to public services, many will be disgusted that this grotesque figure has been allowed to fly under the radar in the absence of functioning institutions.
"While many households struggle to make ends meet, it is appalling to hear that individuals stood to receive millions from the non-domestic RHI scheme.
"The Public Inquiry into the RHI scheme, which other parties had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into supporting is now even more critical."
