The Defence Forces will be available to help with flood relief issues following Storm Ophelia, it has been confirmed.
Minister for Defence Paul Kehoe confirmed the news to Sinn Féin TD for Cork East Pat Buckley.
Deputy Buckley said: "Ophelia was felt most heavily in Cork and needs immediate attention. While my hope is that Storm Brian will not result in much more damage it is good news that flood relief from the Defence Forces will be in place.
"I had a brief but very constructive conversation with the Minister today who assured me of this provision.
"Areas affected at present are parts of the N25 Cork to Youghal, the road to Cobh, Ladysbridge to Garryvoe, the Dongourney road, and Main Street, Carrigtohill, as well as the Whitegate Road."
