Labour is calling on the Housing Minister to extend the timeline for submissions National Planning Framework by at least a month beyond 10 November.

The party made the call to Minister Eoghan Murphy o ensure people have time to make their views known on how to tackle regional imbalances.

Labour TD for Tipperary, Alan Kelly, said: "The deadline for public submissions on the National Planning Framework is 12pm on Friday November 10th. This document shouldn't be rushed as at present there are major omissions and a Dublin centric approach.

"As currently framed, there is no serious attempt to address regional imbalances.

"It lacks positive plans for Tipperary, Shannon airport and the Mid-west region. Limerick, Cork and Galway have the potential to form an Atlantic corridor that would challenge the economic dominance of the greater Dublin region.

"But people need time to read the draft framework and formulate detailed responses.

"A number of groups have been in touch with me to say that the time period is very short for submission to be made.

"This Framework will be in place for more than two decades so it is really important that all voices are heard."
