Farrans Construction is to start work to replace old water mains in Sligo.
The work, to replace of 2.7 kilometres on the N15 High Pressure Replacement Project, is to begin on Monday, 04 December and is expected to take around 10 weeks to complete.
The programme will reduce the high level of leakage across the country by fixing or replacing ageing water mains over the next four years.
The scheme includes the rehabilitation of water mains along the N15 national primary route in the townlands of Mullaghnaneane and Cashelgarran, County Sligo.
The work will involve the replacement of the existing ageing and fatigued pipeline with modern high density polyethylene pipes and to replace existing pipeline valves and fittings.
Irish Water's Water Network Regional Lead, Dave Murphy, said: "The project will deliver significant improvements to customers who have been affected by disruptions to their water supply due to leakage along the pipe.
"Trenchless technology will be used as part of these works as a method to reduce the potential impact and traffic disruption which may be caused due to these works."
Diversions will be put in place during the works.
