Coffey Northumbrian Ltd is to start construction work to replace old watermains in Kildorrery, Co Cork.
Irish Water has also submitted a planning application for a new reservoir in the area to replace the existing one.
The projects will result in a more secure and reliable water supply for homes and businesses in the village and surrounding areas.
Construction work is to start on 08 December and is expected to take ten weeks to complete. The first section, which runs along the R512 Glanworth Road south of the town, is about 1km in length. The work will stop during the Christmas period and resume in early January with the remaining 900m of replacement mains from Scart Cross to Meadstown Cross.
Steven Blennerhassett, Network Programme Regional Lead with Irish Water, commented: "We are very pleased to be in a position to begin this important work of replacing 1.9km of aging watermains in Kildorrery. This will lead to a great improvement in the security and reliability of water supply for local residents and businesses."
