Sinn Féin has called on Irish Water to put contingency plans in place head of the work which started recently to replace lead piping in Dundalk.
President Gerry Adams TD made the call after a leak at the Staleen Plant leak left people in Drogheda and east Meath left without water for days.
He said: "In light of the chaos caused during the summer, which left people in Louth and east Meath high and dry, Irish Water must ensure that contingency plans are in place ahead of the work which started recently to replace lead piping in Dundalk.
"I have contacted Irish Water directly and raised my concerns with them. I will continue to closely monitor the situation as the works progress. It is important that the commitment made to enhance contingency plans for providing alternative water supplies in the event of a major supply disruption are followed through."
