DUP Welcomes Multi-Million Deal To Refit Cruise Ship In Belfast

The DUP has welcomed news that a firm in Newry has scooped a multi-million pound deal to refit a luxury Royal Caribbean cruise ship in Belfast.

MJM will refit the Azamara Pursuit and the scheme is expected to bring more jobs and investment to the NI's economy.

East Belfast DUP MP Gavin Robinson said the contract will put Belfast in a strong position going forward for future drydock and refit contracts.

He said: "Our shipyards boast of skilled workers with a historic affinity in the shipbuilding industry. Harland and Wolff is a globally recognised brand which will be boosted by this fresh investment. The scale of this project cannot be underestimated as it will reinvigorate our dockland area and well experienced industry here. Furthermore it is believed to be the first major outfit of a cruise liner within a dry dock in the UK. For jobs and our local economy this is good news."
