Construction work to replace aging watermains in Donegal is to start on Monday, 29 January.
The works, on the High Road/Windyhall Water Mains Replacement Project, will include the replace of 750 metres of water mains.
The scheme is part of Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
It will reduce the number of bursts in the area, significantly reducing the level of disruption to customers.
The project will involve the decommissioning and replacement of the water mains as well as the replacement of old damaged service connections. A service connection is the water pipe which joins Irish Water's public main to a customer’s property. The old water mains and service connections will be replaced with modern high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic pipes.
Declan Cawley, Water Network Regional Lead, said: "These works will commence in the coming weeks and will be carried out by Farran's Construction on behalf of Irish Water. The project is expected to be completed in approximately 15 weeks and will deliver significant improvements to customers who have been affected by disruptions to their water supply due to leakage along the pipe."
Diversions will be put in place during the works.
