Govt Accused Of Failing To Address Serious Flooding Problems In Roscommon And Galway

Construction News Image
The Government has been accused of "failing to act" to address the serious flooding problems in Roscommon and Galway.

Fianna Fail said an exact plan for ramping up flood defences is needed.

The party's spokesperson on flood relief, Eugene Murphy, said: "I recently raised questions about departmental investment in flood prevention and relief projects after new figures revealed a €50m underspend in flooding capital projects. Minister Moran must ensure that every last cent of this money is put into flood defences. Blocked roads and submerged land is becoming an all too common occurrence in towns, villages and townlands across the west of Ireland – this is simply not acceptable.

"I have asked the Ceann Comhairle to allow a special debate on this matter to press the Minister as to what he will be doing to address this crisis."
