Electricity provider AES is being urged to lift the threat of closure at the Kilroot Power Station in Carrickfergus.
Sinn Féin Energy spokesperson, Cathal Boylan, MLA, made the call and said the firm has an obligation under the Grid Code to help ensure continuity of supply.
He said: "Before they can withdraw from the Grid Code they are required to give three years notice. That has not happened.
"AES has made substantial profits from their contracts selling electricity here and they have a responsibility to their workforce and suppliers which they must honour rather than seeking to abandon them."
