Construction work is to start to replace old cast iron water mains in Co Cavan.

Work on the Blacklion Water Mains Replacement Project includes the replacement of approximately 1.1 kilometres of ageing water mains.

The work is expected to start on Monday, 26 February.

The scheme will include the replacement of shared backyard services in Marion Crescent, Blacklion and will involve laying a new main in the public road, adjacent to the property, and connecting the main to the property with a new service pipe.

Irish Water's Water Network Regional Lead, Declan Cawley, said: "These works will commence in the coming weeks and will be carried out by Farran's Construction on behalf of Irish Water. The project is expected to be completed in approximately 14 weeks and will deliver significant improvements to customers who have been affected by disruptions to their water supply due to leakage along the pipe."
