Fianna Fail and Fine Gael have been slammed for continuing to block Sinn Féin Bill to introduce rent certainty.
Sinn Fein described the increase in rent prices in Co Meath as "unsustainable" after new figures revealed an 11.5% rise in rents in the last year.
TD for Meath West, Peadar Tóibín TD called on Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil "to step up to the mark" in halting the hikes.
Deputy Tóibín said: "Minister of State for Housing, Damien English has bitterly disappointed hard pressed renters in Meath. Average rents in Meath are now €1,171 per month.
"It's those renting in towns such as Navan, Trim, Athboy, Enfield, Oldcastle and Kells who've borne the brunt of escalating rents, and who have no protections from further hikes.
"We need real rent certainty measures to be urgently introduced to provide some relief to renters. However Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have repeatedly blocked Sinn Féin bills to introduce rent certainty.
"The government's solution is to avoid rolling out a comprehensive affordable rental scheme and to continue to convince themselves that the private market will provide sustainable tenancies."
