A water restriction for babies under six months of age has been placed in Ballyragget in Co Kilkenny following the rise in the level of nitrates.
The restriction is in place until further notice.
Irish Water has been working with Kilkenny County Council to put a plan in place which will address the issue. The plan includes the installation of a specific nitrates treatment process at the reservoir site in Ballyragget and it is expected to take four weeks to complete.
Neil Smyth, Water Operations Lead, said: "Working together with Kilkenny County Council and our contractors, we now have a plan in place to address this issue, with a timeline of four weeks to implement. After that, we will continue to provide test results to the HSE and take their advice in relation to the lifting of this drinking water restriction.
"In the meantime, we will continue to provide bottled water to any families who need it. They can contact us at 1850 278 278 to make arrangements for delivery."
