The tracker mortgage scandal is far from over, according to Sinn Féin.

Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD was speaking after evidence from Padraic Kissane revealed there may be another 5,000 victims affected by the scandal.

He said: "I am also very concerned at Mr Kissane's evidence about the nature and results of Permanent TSB's Customer Appeals Panel which is seen as far from satisfactory for many victims. Again, this matches what victims are reporting to my office.

"We must keep our eye on the ball and not let the banks squirm away. The Central Bank, government and Finance Committee must keep up the pressure on those banks that are still not paying out what they stole and the other banks that are still arguing the toss over thousands of cases.

"What this shows is that there is a pressing need for the Sinn Féin legislation enabling Class Action Suits drafted by myself and my party colleague Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire TD."
