The Calnan Group Offers Specialised Equipment to Various Sectors

The Calnan Group provide specialised equipment to various sectors such as the mining industry, energy, waste and state bodies not only nationally but also internationally.

Product types such as transformer rooms, switch rooms, rescue stations, workshops, storerooms, sub stations and pump stations which are all designed on the basis for the end user’s requirements i.e. under or above ground.

Originally, in the mining area, one of the challenges was the location of the site, how were they going to place the units in some cases up to 6km’s underground. However, the solution was to put the units into loaders and transport them down. In later years, the units were modified to suit a hydraulic cable drum transporter which allowed containers to be carried and positioned with more ease and care. Calnan’s are known for their innovative ideas and will work with any client to facilitate the positioning of any unit no matter how tricky the location.

The above-mentioned products are not solely utilised by the mining companies they are also acquired by the ESB, windfarms, hospitality and healthcare sector, shopping centres etc. Also, provided are transmitters for national and local radio stations.

Other projects included Fire Training Simulators for the County Councils. The specialised units had to be fitted out with chimneys, trap doors, stairs, smoke directional control flaps and provision for connection of high pressure hoses. Also developed were Confined Space Training Units. These units contain areas where an individual would have to crawl to access other compartments while being monitored how they react in a constricted and dangerous smoke-filled environment.

Search and Rescue Units for the Navy were designed and built to aid the Navel Diving Service in rescue or recovery operations. The fit out includes on board silent generator, hanging area for wet suits, oxygen cylinder storage, self-draining aluminium floor, operations room including admin area, radio and c.c.t.v. facilities, explosion proof flare storage, various electrics and heating. In addition, Temperature Controlled Rooms that could be heated to + 30 degrees were supplied.

It is important to note that all units can be heated, cooled or pressurised depending on the demands of the end user’s requirements.

Calnan’s also manufacture picking lines for recycling plants. Enclosures up to 80’ long are elevated on a stand, three to four meters high. The centre floor panel is removed, a conveyor belt enters and exits either end facilitating the picker to sort the waste and drop into the appropriate skips underneath.

The Calnan Group offer turnkey projects from drawings to installation including full mechanical, electrical and civil works. The fabrication of specialised work is carried out in Calnan Engineering’s manufacturing plant in Oristown, Kells Co. Meath.
