A major water main in Ballinlough is to be replaced after a series of bursts have resulted in water outages for the local area.
A total of 1,550 meters of the main will be replaced by Roscommon County Council in partnership with Irish Water.
A minor valve installation programme has already began to decrease the extent of the disruption caused by the bursts. The programme is a short term solution issued by the local council and Irish Water.
The current water main is a 40 year old asbestos cement pipeline, and the recent problems are due to its age and type.
