Housing Minister Called To Provide Adjusted Homeless Figures

The Housing Minister has been called to provide adjusted homeless figures for each month and confirm if the March figures have decreased.

Sinn Fein housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD also urged Minister Eoghan Murphy to explain the circumstances behind the miscategorisation of homeless people.

Mr Ó Broin urged the Minister to take the actions needed to tackle the issue.

He said: "There a number of questions the Minister needs to answer and actions he needs to take on this issue.

"Firstly, which Councils miscategorised, how many councils miscategorised, and has it been the same councils miscategorising data each month?

"When did the Department realise there was a problem and how many people were wrongly included and when were they removed?

"If up to 600 people are miscategorised and some of them were removed for the March figures just released, surely the March numbers should show an increase in the number of people that are homeless?

"Minister Murphy also needs to explain why his Department did not catch this discrepancy sooner."
