Farrans Construction is set to begin work to replace over 650 metres of damaged pipes in the Briarhill area of Galway this week.
The old pipes will be replaced by heavy plastic pipes that will improve water supply, water pressure and reduce leakage for the local residents.
The works are part of Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme which will reduce the high level of leakage across the country by fixing or replacing ageing water mains over the next four years.
The project will take approximately 10 weeks to complete.
Water Network Regional Lead, Dave Murphy, said: "This section of works will take place along the Monivea Road (R339) for 650 metres northeast of the Parkmore Junction and will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.
"All works are to be carried out at night to minimise traffic disruption," he added.
