Irish Water is to submit a planning application to develop a new wastewater treatment plant in Castletownshend in Cork.
The plans will improve the water quality for households living in the area.
Irish Water is to host a drop in information event which will take place in Mary Ann's Bar & Restaurant, on Thursday, 24 May 24 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
The proposed project will end the discharge of the equivalent of 400 wheelie bins of untreated wastewater being discharged into Castlehaven Harbour each day from Castletownshend. The plan includes the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant to serve a population equivalent (PE) of approximately 530, new sewers, rising mains and a below-ground pumping station.
It is hoped that planning, design and construction will take approximately three to four years and will be undertaken between 2018 and 2021, subject to statutory approvals.
