Fianna Fáil's Eamon Scanlon has urged the Justice Minister to purchase the vacant CLÁR building in Tubbercurry, Sligo, for a Garda Station renovation.
Deputy Scanlon, TD for Sligo-Leitrim, said: "The OPW intends to purchase land to renovate the Garda Station and improve conditions for staff. The former CLÁR building presents an ideal opportunity. It's being sold by a bank and could be bought for a fair price."
The current Tubbercurry Garda Station is almost 60-years-old and is "no longer fit for purpose".
Mr Scanlon added: "Tubbercurry is one of the busiest stations in the Sligo-Leitrim division and the current conditions are making it difficult for officers to carry out their day to day duties."
Responding to Deputy Scanlon's proposal in the Dáil this week, the Minister for Justice and Equality said: "The Garda Síochána Inspectorate, at the request of the Policing Authority, will carry out a detailed review of the dispersal and use of resources in delivering policing services to the communities."
