Engineering consultants Nicholas O'Dwyer has been selected to lead the design of a €7 million flood alleviation scheme in South Dublin.
The Poddle River Alleviation Scheme aims to address the flooding problems of the Poddle River and provide added protection to more than 800 properties nearby.
Nicholas O'Dwyer previously worked as design consultants on the project before the recent appointment.
Work is now progressing on the preliminary design stage. A Part 10 planning application will be submitted to An Bord Pleanala following a public consultation process. The OPW, South Dublin County Council and Dublin City Council are working together on the project.
Cllr Pamela Kearns Chair of the Environment Public Realm and Climate Change Strategic Policy Committee of South Dublin County Council said: "This is a welcome development as the work on the Poddle Flood Alleviation Scheme is hugely important to the residents in the area."
Construction work is expected to start in late 2019 or early 2020.
