SIAC Construction is to commence realignment work on the Callan Road in Kilkenny after a road scheme was officially opened yesterday, 29 May.
The N76 Callan Road Realignment Scheme aims to improve a 4.4km section of the road from the N76 Callan Road Roundabout, on the Kilkenny Ring Road, to a point just south of the Brownstown Junction.
It will also provide for the provision of on-line improvement works with footpaths/cycle-tracks and public lighting from the Ring Road to Tennypark Cross and an off-line road realignment between Tennypark Cross and Brownstown Junction.
Priority junctions incorporating central ghost islands at the Tennypark and Brownstown junctions are also part of the scheme.
Other works will include reconfiguring the Tennypark Cross junction to a staggered crossroads.
The scheme will also provide the following: a surface water drainage system, fencing, landscaping, road markings, signage, service diversions, accommodation works and the installation of sanitary service infrastructure for future use.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland has funded the scheme under the Pavement Improvement and Minor Works Programme.
