Farrans Construction is to begin mains renewal works in Corraleehan, Co Leitrim, in the coming weeks.
Works will include replacing 4.7km of old, damaged pipes with heavy plastic pipes.
Network Regional Lead Declan Cawley said: "The works will involve the decommissioning and replacement of water mains along the L1345-2 and the L1345-1 beginning at the junction of the R202 in the townland of Drumgownagh and heading north towards Derradda and Corraleehan, ending at the reservoir in Ardmoneen in County Cavan.
"The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting them to the customer's water supply."
The project is part of Irish Water's four year National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Work will take approximately 15 weeks to complete.
