Construction work has begun on the development of two 16-classroom schools in Belmayne, Dublin.
The schools are for St Francis of Assisi and Belmayne ETNS and will be located on a shared campus on Belmayne Avenue.
Over €11.6m has been invested in the projects, with construction expected to be completed in Q1 of 2019.
Education Minister Richard Bruton turned the sod on both projects at the new green field site.
He said: "I would like to pay tribute to all of the staff, parents and children who have created a warm and welcoming environment in which our children can thrive. I am delighted that their hard work in developing the schools is being backed by an €11.6m, government investment in state of the art facilities."
Minister Bruton also recently announced four new schools for the Donaghmede/Howth/Sutton/Baldoyle area to open in 2019-2021. These new schools will create 2,800 new school places at primary and second level, in addition to the new schools for Belmayne ETNS and St Francis of Assisi.
