Construction work is continuing on the £160 million A6 Dualling scheme.
The project is being delivered by Graham Farrans JV and will see 14.7kms of the A6 North Western Transport Corridor upgraded between Randalstown and Castledawson.
The development will strengthen transport links and will bring long term benefits to road users and the local community. Completion is scheduled for 2021.
Sinn Féin MP, Elisha McCallion, has welcomed news that work is to begin on the Drumahoe to Dungiven section of the project on Wednesday, 26 September.
The Foyle MP said the news is a "positive step forward for the city".
"Work is already well underway on other sections of the A6 and when completed, this road upgrade will reduce journey times between Derry and Belfast which is vital for growing our economy and increasing connectivity," she said.
"It will also make it much easier for visitors and tourists to travel to the city. This has been made possible because of the work to take this vital infrastructure project forward carried out by Chris Hazzard as Infrastructure Minister.
"This, along with other key infrastructure projects such as the A5 and the transport hub at the old Waterside train station, will all enhance this city and district for locals and others."
