A new 152-space Park and Ride facility has been built at the Drumderg roundabout in Toome, Co Antrim.
The site, which includes five dedicated disabled spaces and two electric car charging points, has 50 more spaces than the previous facility. In addition, a new pedestrian footbridge has also been constructed to improve accessibility and ensure safe access to the car park for commuters.
The £2 million scheme has been developed as part of the £160 million A6 Dualling project.
David Porter, Divisional Roads Manager, Department for Infrastructure said: "Work on the A6 Randalstown to Castledawson Dualling Scheme is progressing to programme. Over the last few months commuters will have seen progress being made on a number of bridge structures along the route. The good weather this summer has also help the earthworks' programme and, in some locations, the first of the new road surface has been laid.
"The opening of the Toome Park and Ride facility is another significant milestone for this major project. With an additional 50 spaces available it will provide increased capacity for safe and convenient parking and will facilitate shared onward journeys. The regular bus service along the main A6 will stop at this site which offers commuters an attractive alternative to using a private car for their journey between Belfast and the North West."
