Shareridge is to replace ageing water mains on the Ennis Road in Limerick as part of Irish Water's €500m Leakage Reduction Programme.

Approximately 1.3km of water mains will be replaced with new plastic pipes, from Jetland Junction to Union Cross.

The project will reduce the risk of contamination and provide a safer overall drinking water supply.

It is being completed on behalf of Irish Water, in collaboration with Limerick City and County Council.

"Replacing these water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area," said Irish Water's Alan Morrissey.

"This project will also play a key role in reducing the amount of clean drinking water lost to leakage, which will in turn help with the ongoing drive to conserve water and reduce the likelihood of restrictions during future droughts."

It is expected to be completed by the end of January 2019.
