The Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment has resigned.
It came after Minister Denis Naughten admitted to attending a number of private dinners with David McCourt, the businessman who heads up the sole remaining consortium bidding for the rural broadband contract - worth over €500m.
Green Party leader Eamon Ryan TD has asked for answers.
He said: "I feel sorry for Minister Naughten and his family, but the series of revelations leave us in no doubt that his position had become untenable. This was not just optics. I'd also be very interested to know what the department knew throughout all of this. There are big questions to answer."
