The Green Party said it is disappointed over An Bord Pleanála's decision to reject plans to develop College Green in Dublin into a pedestrian plaza.
The party said cyclists and pedestrians are being ignored and transport has to change.
Green Party Councillor Clair Byrne said: "What is happening in Dublin goes against the positive new planning that other cities are taking. It also goes against our own City Development and transport hierarchy. The best cities are now taking out traffic to create civic spaces where the pedestrian and the cyclist are king. We are still going in the opposite direction and that direction is backwards."
