An improvement project of the N55 between Cornamaddy, Athlone, Co Westmeath and Ballymahon, Co Longford, is moving forward.

The scheme is currently at Route Selection Phase after five options with six potential links were put on display at a public consultation meeting in April of this year.

These route options and links have been refined down to six end to end route options. The extent of the study area has also been refined. They will now undergo further detailed appraisal in order to select the preferred route option.

The announcement of the preferred route is expected in early 2019.

Westmeath County Council is partnering with Longford County Council for the project.
