GMC has progressed its work to replace problematic water mains across Co Meath, as part of Irish Water's Leakage Reduction Programme.
Work has continued to the Moynalty Road in Kells, where 650m of mains will be replaced with heavy plastic pipes.
This section of works will commence in the coming week, taking place between O'Growney Terrace and Sunset Heights. It is scheduled for completion by December 2018.
Once complete, the benefits of the project for the local community will include a more reliable water supply for all customers. This means reduced leakage on the network. Operational and maintenance costs will also be reduced as the network operation will require less maintenance.
Derek Deignan, Regional Lead on the Leakage Reduction Programme at Irish Water said: "The replacement of these problematic water mains in Kells will improve security of supply for local residents. Replacing the existing water mains with new modern pipes will provide a long-term solution to ensure a safe and secure water supply is delivered to customers. Irish Water understands this type of work can be inconvenient and will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause. We would like to thank the local community in Kells for their patience while we deliver these necessary water network improvements."
