A new map has been launched based on the work carried out by the Kilkenny Archaeological Project (KKAP).

Found on HeritageMaps.ie, it provides direct links to digital copies of the numerous excavations, architectural recording projects, geophysical surveys and news reports that were amassed specifically for the project by KKAP researchers.

It was developed by a partnership between the Heritage Council, Kilkenny County Council Heritage Office and Kilkenny Archaeology Ltd.

Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Eamon Aylward, said: "This project, driven by our Heritage Office, represents a unique and invaluable new archaeological resource which can be used in new and imaginative ways by Kilkenny County Council, local historians, heritage societies, schools and the general public. We are delighted to be the second local authority, after Dublin City, to undertake such a project."

Dearbhala Ledwidge, Heritage Officer added: "This is a treasure trove for anyone with an interest in Kilkenny City's past. The archaeological reports and findings from the period 1968 to 2006 are now accessible to everyone."
