Approximately 1.1 kilometres of mains will be decommissioned and replaced with new plastic pipes along the R674 road in the vicinity of Ring National School.
The project will improve the Roberts Cross Water Supply Scheme.
Work will commence at the end of November.
Mark O'Duffy, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead at Irish Water, said: "As they get older, cast iron water mains can become severely corroded, which can give rise to increased levels of iron in the water supply and discolouration of the water. Replacing the old pipework will eliminate this issue of high iron levels and improve the quality of the water.

"Replacing these ageing water mains will not only improve water quality, it will also reduce leakage and improve security of water supply. At present, almost half of the water produced in Ireland is lost to leaks in the network.”

Traffic Management will be in place for the duration of the works.
The project is due for completion by February 2019.
