Irish Water is to submit a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for a site in Carraroe, Co Galway, to address the issue of untreated wastewater.
The utility aims to develop a new wastewater treatment plant to stop the discharge of untreated wastewater into Casla Bay.
The Public Notice for the CPO will be published tomorrow, Thursday 29 November, to acquire the necessary lands, while also being submitted to An Bord Pleanála.
Along with the wastewater treatment plant, further works under the Carraroe Sewerage Scheme will include the installation of new pipes and a pumping station.
The scheme will bring benefits to Carraroe in terms of health, integrity of the environment and improved water quality for all.
