Progress has been made on a new water treatment plant for Athlone.
The project is currently at planning preparation stage and when complete will deal with the current water supply issues being experienced in the town.
These issues are due to the age and condition of the water treatment plant and associated infrastructure.
Irish Water has also recently reported a water mains burst on the rising main to Annagh Reservoir. A water outage will be necessary in Athlone and surrounding areas from 10pm tonight, Friday 30 November, until 6am tomorrow, Saturday 01 December.
The outage will affect approximately 8,000 customers on the east side of Athlone Town, Baylin, Mount Temple, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley and surrounds in Co Westmeath.
