Bord Gáis Energy, part of Centrica plc, reported a resilient performance for the first half of 2026, with EBITDA of €50m, slightly ahead of the same period last year (H1 2025: €49m).
The outcome reflects disciplined execution across its retail, optimisation and infrastructure businesses in challenging market conditions.
The company said it continues to invest at scale to bolster Ireland's energy system and accelerate a secure, resilient and lower‑carbon future. It now has about 1GW of generation in operation and development, with flexible generation projects in Athlone and Dublin on track for commissioning later this year, and a third project in East Galway at the planning stage.
In March, Centrica opened a new Power Global Control Centre in Athlone to oversee assets across Europe, including the UK, Belgium and Sweden, spanning flexible thermal generation, battery energy storage and solar.
Bord Gáis Energy reported further progress on its net zero strategy, expanding its portfolio of low‑carbon solutions and strengthening its role as a leading offtaker of renewable power through long‑term power purchase agreements. Following the acquisition and integration of solar firm Swyft Energy, the business delivered around 1,000 installations, up 21% year on year, with nearly 900 of these helping residential customers lower energy costs and emissions.
In a highly competitive market, the supplier said it is maintaining strong customer engagement and retention, supported by ongoing investment in service and support.
Customer support remains a core focus amid cost‑of‑living pressures. Working with partners including MABS and Focus Ireland through its Energy Support Fund, the company has provided €7.9m in practical assistance to customers facing financial difficulty since the fund’s launch in April 2022.
