Work has commenced to replace a kilometre of ageing water mains in the Knockburden area of Ballincollig, Co Cork.
Coffey Northumbrian will carry out the project, which involves the installation of new plastic pipes.
The scheme is being delivered by Irish Water in partnership with Cork County Council under the utility's national Leakage Reduction Programme.
Steven Blennerhassett, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead, Irish Water, said:"“As they get older, some pipes have a high level of leakage as well as being subject to frequent bursts.
"The installation of this water main is essential in providing a safe, secure and reliable water supply for this area, now and into the future."
The works are expected to be completed by the end of February 2019.
