Plans are progressing to improve the Kilkenny water supply in Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown.
Irish Water has submitted a notice of a Compulsory Purchase Order to acquire the lands needed for the project.
The scheme will include the development of two new borehole sources, the construction of a new water treatment plant, a storage reservoir and all associated pipework.
When complete, the upgrades will help serve the existing 1,225 residential and business properties in the area.
Lisa Cogan, Irish Water's regional infrastructure lead, said: "We are very pleased to be progressing what is an essential project for Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown. This much-needed upgrade will ensure that the people living and working in these communities will have the assurance that their water supply will be safe and capable of meeting all their needs now and into the future."
