Coffey Northumbrian has been appointed to replace ageing water mains in the Knockgorm/Kilcorney Cross area of County Cork.
The contractor will replace almost two kilometres of old, damaged pipes with new plastic pipes to reduce leakage in the area.
The work is being delivered on behalf of Irish Water and Cork County Council under the utility's national Leakage Reduction Programme.
Steven Blennerhassett, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead, Irish Water, said: "As they get older, some pipes have a high level of leakage as well as being subject to frequent bursts. The installation of this water main is essential in providing a safe, secure and reliable water supply for this area, now and into the future."
The project is expected to be completed by end of April 2019.
