A water supply scheme in Grangemore, Co Roscommon, is to be extended after securing a €2.4 million investment from Irish Water.
The extended Boyle Supply Scheme will lead to the decommissioning of the Cavetown Water Treatment Plant, a site listed on the EPA's Remedial Action List for Trihalomethane exceedances.
A pumping station will be constructed at the Carrickmore reservoir, along with 4.7km of rising mains and inter-connecting water mains, which will be delivered to extend the Boyle Water Supply Scheme to Grangemore.
When complete, customers in Grangemore will receive their water from the Boyle Water Supply.
Source Civil Limited is carrying out the project in partnership with Roscommon County Council.
Works are due to commence on site in the coming weeks.
