Construction is underway on 52 new homes in Fermoy, Co Cork.
The Cork County Council project is being delivered as a turnkey development in the existing Crann Ard site on Pike Road.
While addressing the need for social housing in the area, the development will also address dereliction, improving the site for current residents.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy said: "Cork County Council has built, acquired or leased over 1,700 housing units since 2015, through direct construction, acquisition of turnkeys, Part V delivery and its partnerships with Approved Housing Bodies. These new developments in Fermoy are expected to go a considerable way towards easing the social housing need in the Fermoy area and alleviating the pressures that many applicants find themselves under in the current climate. This development is a welcome boost for Fermoy Town and Cork County Council is proud to bring it to fruition."
This project forms part of the Rebuilding Ireland and Project Ireland 2040 programmes.
It follows on from the completion of a 10 unit development on Oliver Plunkett Hill last year, a recent sod turning at Duntahane by the Approved Housing Body Respond and significant progress on a rapid-build turnkey scheme at Corrin View, Fermoy.
These schemes are part of Cork County Council's plans to deliver up to 3,000 new social housing units in Cork during the period 2016-2021.
