Archaeological investigation works are to begin on the A5 Western Transport Corridor (A5WTC) project.
The A5WTC scheme will provide 85 kilometres of dual carriageway from south of L'Derry at New Buildings to the border at Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone.
A joint venture between FP McCann and NAC will deliver the investigation works on Phase 1A of the scheme, which involves the construction of offline dualling extending for approximately 14.8km.
The archaeological investigation works will be carried out in two phases, with the first phase focusing on the areas identified as high priority in the construction programme, and the second covering the remaining areas.
Work will include site evaluation works, comprising localised strip, map and recording, trial trenching and building recording, followed by the resolution of the arisings from the Phase 1 works. The works will finish with the assessment, analysis, reporting, publication and archiving of the archaeological discoveries of Phases 1 and 2.
Ancillary works will be carried out before the investigation works commence.
