Major improvement works are progressing in Carrickfergus, with plans in place to commence work in the Antrim Street and Lancasterian Street this week.
The £698,000 works will improve the appearance of the area along Lancasterian Street, the front of the Civic Centre, and along Antrim Street by installing new footways, lighting and street furniture including landscaping, trees and seating areas.
Further works include finishing the pedestrian areas in front of Carrickfergus Museum and Civic Centre with a mix of high quality grey granite and caithness stone, as well as resurfacing on Antrim Street.
The schemes are being delivered with £638,000 funding from the Department for Communities and the remainder from Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
It is being delivered in partnership with the Department for Infrastructure, and follows on from a series of regeneration schemes that have been delivered across Carrickfergus.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Cllr Lindsay Millar, welcomed the news: "We're delighted to have secured this funding which will enhance the town centre and increase footfall for local businesses. This boost is yet another example of our commitment to developing the town's reputation as a world-class heritage site and a must-visit destination for tourists from around the world. The works will give Carrickfergus a well-deserved facelift and I'm excited and proud to be a part of this urban regeneration project which will benefit everyone, especially in my hometown."
The works are scheduled to be completed by the end of summer 2019.
