Queen's University Belfast has pledged its support to Ulster University's ongoing developments in the north west.
UU has plans in place for a full expansion of the university's Magee campus in Londonderry, which includes the establishment of a graduate entry medical school.
The proposed Magee Postgraduate Medical School has been hit with delays, with parties now concerned the development will not welcome its first intake of students until October 2021, unless plans are approved in the coming months.
Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion met with the President and Vice Chancellor of QUB, Professor Ian Greer to discuss the Ulster University plans.
The Foyle MP said: "In recent months we have had the development of a positive working relationship between Ulster University and Queen's. As a party, we want to see this relationship develop, not only for the benefit of students but for our economy as a whole.
"At today's meeting Professor Greer confirmed Queen's University's absolute support for the development of the medical school based in the north west and for the overall expansion of the Magee campus and pledged to work to support that development in any way possible."
She added: "I believe it will assist the expansion of Magee, which is my absolute priority and I will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the complete expansion of the Magee campus is delivered."
