The Northern Ireland Housing Executive has been urged to assure residents on its programme of planned maintenance work following the collapse of two major frameworks.

The planning maintenance framework was formally collapsed on Friday, 25 January, adding to the recent fall of the window and doors framework. They represent an investment of £1 billion worth of contracts.

Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has called on the HE to provide clarity on the issue.

"This maintenance work is vital to families waiting for repairs to their homes and to the many workers employed under these contracts," she said.

"The collapse of the process to award the contracts is therefore deeply worrying.

"I have written to the Chief Executive of the Housing Executive to ask for urgent answers on what has gone wrong and to seek assurances that planned maintenance work will be carried out and to confirm how many residents will be waiting on much-needed repairs and also which jobs will be impacted."
