Faulty water mains in north Laois are to be repaired under Irish Water's national Leakage Reduction Programme.
Work has commenced to replace 1050 metres of aged cast iron mains in Mountmellick with new plastic pipes.
The scheme will deliver a more reliable water supply for local customers and improve water pressure to homes and businesses.
Traffic management will be in place during the project with a local road closure required for a number of days on Church Street from the junction with Pearse Street to the junction with O'Connell Square.
Details on closures and traffic management plans will be announced in advance.
The works are expected to be completed by June 2019.
