A long-awaited Inpatient Unit is to be built at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin after planning permission was granted.
Fine Gael Senator Catherine Noone revealed the progress on the Cystic Fibrosis ward after talking with Health Minister Simon Harris.
Welcoming the upgrade, Senator Noone said: "I raised this matter in the Seanad by tabling a Commencement Debate outlining the urgent need for progress on this project just before Christmas and I'm delighted the project will soon get underway.
"Life expectancy for people with CF has increased progressively in recent years, which is really positive. This means it is incumbent on Government to respond to the increased numbers of adults with cystic fibrosis being treated in adult centres, and the increased complexity of cases.
"I am delighted that patients will soon benefit from this state of the art new unit."
