Irish Water has submitted a planning application to Wexford County Council for the replacement of the raw water intake structure at Clonhaston, County Wexford.
The proposed development will see the following works taking place, the construction and operation of a new raw water intake to abstract water from the River Slaney, the construction of a new pumping station, surge vessel and ESB substation.
The upgrade is required as the existing intake works which is located at Vinegar Hill water treatment plant on the River Slaney is prone to flooding on a regular basis.
This project forms part of our investment plan. Works have been prioritised to address the most critical issues in line with commitments outlined in our Business Plan. Delivery of the business plan will involve a €5.5 billion investment in capital spending on drinking water and wastewater quality and capacity and new infrastructure up to 2021.
There is significant work happening around the country to tackle the size and scale of the issues with the public water and wastewater networks including a €16 million investment in a new wastewater treatment plant in Enniscorthy.
