A €2.5 million expansion project at Shamrock Rovers' Tallaght Stadium has helped the club reach a new key milestone.
The upgrades, which saw the Dublin stadium increase its capacity to 8,000, allowed a new attendance record to be set last week.
Approximately 6,414 fans turned out for the local derby between league leaders Shamrock Rovers and rival Bohemians.
South Dublin County Council also has plans for further expansion of the stadium in the near future, having commissioned a report from Cooney Architects in recent months that explored the option of developing the North Stand in Tallaght Stadium and boosting capacity to 10,000. The report made recommendations on developing improved press facilities and seating as well as additional corporate facilities on a new second floor to be developed in the existing Main Stand. It is anticipated that this work will be progressed in line with the Part 8 process this year.
